Bulgarian National Oceanographic Data and Information Center – BODIC
BODIC is an E-infrastructure serves as a local portal for the national and international exchange of oceanographic data and information. The main objectives of BODIC are: To collate oceanographic data and information, archive and store them and maximize their utilization; To enhance the availability of high-quality oceanographic data and information for a wide group of users; To promote data and information exchange on national and international level; To provide oceanographic services to end users.
BODIC is designated as a NODC in the context of IOC-IODE system. Oceanographic data centre of the Institute of Oceanology – IO-ODC was established in June 27, 2002 as a division of “Ocean technology” department of the IO-BAS. Follows the decision of the Bulgarian National Oceanographic Commission, dated September 8th, 2004, the IO-ODC has been nominated as Bulgarian National Oceanographic Data Centre. The centre is officially recognised as a Bulgarian National Oceanographic Data Centre – BGODC and included in the list of world oceanographic data centres of IOC/IODE in 2005, replacing NIMH data center which use to play role of NODC from 1985. In 2019 BGODC was renamed to be Bulgarian National Oceanographic Data and Information Center – BODIC.
BODIC is involved in European SEADATANET and ODINBLACKSEA on-line data exchange infrastructures, CMEMS INSTAC real time data services for Black Sea and CMEMS BS-MFC. BODIC serves as National oceanographic data and information repository.
Activities planned:
Modernization includes: Delivery of new hardware and basic software with improved performance; Building systems for conditioning, safety, data backup and protection and uninterruptible power supply.
It is planned to develop dedicated software, with a new database and improved user friendly interface.
Expected end users of the services of the center are: scientific institutes and universities from the country and abroad; ministries, state and local government bodies; small and medium-sized enterprises; the maritime business; non-governmental organizations from the country and abroad; international organizations; general public.
